Sigil Workshop

Note - I've taken a lot of the information that follows from The Sigil Secret, by Mark Vincent.  It's a very thorough introduction to using sigils in magick and I recommend visiting Mark's website and YouTube channel for more information. Links at the bottom of this post.

Magick begins with intention and is manifested through energy.  Before you can begin setting in motion the energies that will nudge the universe into changing the way you want, you must have a clear idea of what it is you want, expressed as a positive statement of fact, for example - 

I attract love and abundance

However, having that clear intention isn't enough.  That's because that part of your mind that works the magic is your unconscious and the unconscious doesn't understand language. To work magick, we need to communicate with the unconscious in ways it can understand.

Sigils are a useful tool for communicating your intention to the unconscious mind.

Essential Intentions 

It's worthwhile getting in some practice by creating some "essential" sigils to create a foundation to build upon.  You can create as many sigils as you want at any one time.

Here are some you might want to try - 

• My sigils work
• I forget my sigils
• I am in the right frame of mind to create sigils

When you've created your sigil and are ready to charge and release it, seal it by drawing a circle or a square around the sigil.

Charging and releasing your Sigils

When you have created your sigil, you need to charge it and then release it into the Universe.  There are a number of ways to charge your sigils - this is one;

Look at your sigil.  Stare at it until you can see it with your eyes closed.  Think only of the shape of the sigil, the way in which the lines and shapes connect.  Look away and try to draw it from memory. When the image is clear, hold the sigil between the palms of your hands and visualise the sigil in the air in front of you.  Again, concentrate on the shape of the sigil.  

Now your sigil is charged, it's ready to be released.  

You could destroy the sigil by

• burning it
• carving it onto a candle and then burning the candle
• burying it
• tearing it into pieces and throwing the pieces away (but don't litter!
• drawing it on the sand and let the tide take it
• drawing it on your skin in water-based marker and let it wash away

Do whatever works for you - use your imagination!

If you prefer not to destroy your sigil, you could display it somewhere you will see it regularly (so that you cease to notice it), put it in your mobile phone case (hide it behind the phone) or hide it in a box (good if you have lots of sigils) .  The important thing is to forget about it!  Let the unconscious get on with the job in peace.

What if it doesn't work?

Nobody has 100% success with spellcraft, especially not at first. 

• Perhaps you were too anxious for the sigil to work and kept thinking about it.
• You might have been stressed or anxious when you created your sigil. 
• Your intention might not have been right (for instance, your unconscious or your higher self disagreed that it was the right thing for you, or your intention might have directly affected another person).

If, after a period of around 3 months, you haven't seen results, it's safe to say that the spell didn't work and you can try again.
